A Midsummer Night’s Dream Wedding Ideas with Enchanting Fairy Light Tunnel

It’s really lovely to see a styled shoot team take on evening wedding inspiration. Let’s face it most weddings begin in the late afternoon and arguably much of the wedding party is held once the sun sets. I think that wedding lighting is so important to create that magical atmosphere and this ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ editorial really encapsulates an ethereal vibe in part thanks to the spectacular lighting. I’m looking at you fairy light tunnel of dreams! Whoa.

There is so much to take away from these sublime images by Dani Louise Photography, undeniably stylish attire (celestial wedding gown alert) and moon inspired décor including; pretty paper goods, striking cake creations, mesmerising crescent moon flower arch and the tablescape, which took it’s colour palette from the night sky.

I defy you not to fall head over heels and want to pin every single image to your wedding mood board. Can I get hitched again please?!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Wedding Ideas

‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ – I’d been dreaming about this styled shoot for what seemed like forever! My inspiration came from the iconic Shakespeare play, with romantic plots based around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta. It is well known for the play’s bright, extravagant colours and ethereal, fairytale theme. I wanted to incorporate all of this dreamy inspo into a modern wedding for couples who might be thinking about intimate, outdoor ceremonies and alfresco dining with family and friends under the moonlight (which we made a real feature in this shoot).

The venue was Jervaulx Abbey, a beautiful, atmospheric and charming ruined Cistercian monastery in the Yorkshire Dales. It was such an idyllic venue, bringing the enchanted, fairytale feel I was looking for. The cherry on the cake was Jessica in the stunning Willowby by Watters ‘Orion’ gown from Dotty Bridal… it just looked sooo dreamy!

All of the suppliers brought their unique touches and the result was awesome! Vickie from Spectacular Scenes ran with the styling and created exactly what my mind had envisioned; Gayle from Where the Ribbon Ends created the most beautiful celestial cakes and desserts for the table; Charlotte and Stacey from Love Lights the Way created the dreamy fairy light tunnel; Kate at Bramble Sky brought her new range of celestial metallic frames and props; Nicola from Dittany Entwined created the dazzling moon flower arch; Carolyn at Grey Starling Designs designed the themed seating plan and most elegant wedding stationery set; Brett and Bronte from Garden Weddings Tipi Hire brought their new range of rustic tables and cross back chairs; Anna at Lylun Designs hand painted a stunning themed denim jacket to keep our lovely bride warm in the evening; AND FINALLY, the gorgeous Jessica and William (@w.j.couple) brought the love!

Styling by Vickie at Spectacular Scenes

Dani presented the concept ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and my creative mind went wild. I started with the colours for the styling and chose dark navy as the foundation colour to replicate the midnight sky; oranges and pinks as the principle colours to add the colour pop and then lastly, I chose silver as the accent colour to replicate the shine from the stars.  I worked with White House Crockery to choose the beautiful navy blue glass charger plates and stone dinner plates that looked like the moon. Finished with silver cutlery and beautiful silver grey napkins tied with a navy ribbon. The flowers along the table and crescent moon backdrop created by Dittany Entwined were incorporated to create those pops of colour throughout.

The table was designed to draw the eye from the floor through the fairy light tunnel by Love Lights the Way all the way up to the star lit sky oozing through the abbey windows; creating the most romantic place to celebrate with guests. Being an intimate table, I wanted to showcase the incredible black cake by Where the Ribbon Ends and the fantastic crescent moon stand by Bramble Sky as the focal centre piece.

Florals by Nicola at Dittany Entwined

My floral style is mainly led by texture and movement, using flowers and foliage to tell a story.

The theme for this shoot was largely based around the night sky; for me, this created not only a picture of the clouds, moon and stars but also of dreams, aspirations and romance. I used this inspiration for the flowers and foliage choices, as well as the final overall look of the floral arrangements. Fresh and dried palms, asparagus fern and British gypsophila provided the beautiful background shape and floaty romantic movement to the arrangements. I loved getting creative with different elements and spray painting the foliage deep navy and silver, which gave the arrangements the shades of the night sky. The flowers I used were a mixture of peonies, garden roses, spray roses, and dahlia all in pinks, corals and purples which really brightened the overall look and gave it that summery feel. June is the perfect month to have a wedding if you love peonies, flowers are always at their best in the midst of their season!

This has been the first shoot I have done since just before lockdown in March. It felt amazing to get creative again and work alongside an amazing group of suppliers to make what can only be described as magic

Decorative Props & Stands by Kate at Bramble Sky

It was a pleasure to showcase our new range at this celestial themed shoot and the silver finish to the props looked fabulous against the grey stone walls and twinkling stars in the night sky!  As part of our new collection, we have introduced the crescent moon celestial range of backdrops and matching seating plan stands, as well as cake stands and centre pieces. The mesh element of the celestial range adds a futuristic yet stylish feel to the props. An additional choice of the trio of cake stands also provides an alternative cake display for smaller cakes at more intimate weddings going forwards in 2020.

Gray Starling Designs was the perfect choice for supplying the moon themed wedding stationary for this shoot. All Carolyn’s designs are created using beautiful cotton paper collections which are handcrafted in house from 100% natural, sustainable and ethically sourced materials.
